Where did this go, again?

Just wondering.

6 Fest

Well – it would appear that many people have had a view, pretty much from the sublime to the ridiculous.  So here’s an effort from the ILF perspective…

First off – it was a bloody good night.  A lot of catching up with campaigners and the like.  Cheers to everyone.

Second – was that not entertaining?  OK – there could have been more toilets (sorry), but the bands?  Baboo was frankly great and the best opener we could have hoped for (although Oompah Brass Band might argue).

Hegley – are you really having a go at St John?  A gent and a proper rabble rouser.

Beth and MTO – are we talking diversity?  Lovely.

Erland?  Where are you going to see that quality for one of your English pounds?

Metronomy for about 50p.  Good value.  And JJR blowing amps?  Anyone else remember Archaos?  Or Little Richard?  A mixture, possibly…

And on the other stage…

Amity and Mirrorkicks knocked the sides out.

Shuttleworth and Ellen & the Escapades kept the people very, very happy.

Busking star, Ady, added to the fun and Funkshone got the end of the night party going.

And everyone seemed to like seeing their favourite 6 Staff in a Total Shambles.

After that, Doyle & The Fourfathers blew the room with a fantastic show before inviting Liz Kershaw and Damain O’Neill onto stage for a couple of Undertones classics.

And then – bloody Trojan Sound System vs Bloody Craig Charles.  All for 15 quid (max).  Don’t make us laugh.  This was the bargain of the year.

Hello everyone,

We can see that there has been increased traffic on the site and we’re really sorry there hasn’t been much to say.

As you know, the ILF has been involved with making 6 Fest the biggest night of the year – and it looks like it might be.  It’ll certainly have a range of surprises and prizes that even we didn’t think possible when we started out on all of this.  What is clear is that it’s been a LOT of hard work, which will hopefully be clear when you get there.  If you have any questions regarding the day in advance, they may well be answered here…  If not, let us know.

In other related news, we’re sorry to hear that Sir Michael Lyons will be stepping down from his role as Chairman of the BBC Trust.  The Trust has been getting mixed messages from the government, but from our perspective ‘Mike’ was straight down the line and never reneged on either his promises or willingness to make a decisive ruling when it mattered.  We wish him well in whatever he decides to do next.

Like most right-minded people, we are concerned about what this means for the BBC as a whole, but not being conspiracy theorists we’re going to relax for a bit and see what comes out in the wash…  However, if things get ‘interesting’ we’ll let you know.

As far as 6 Music is concerned, we note with concern that the BBC has decided to stop 6 Listeners from posting on the site that was originally set up for that purpose.  It feels like a shame and we don’t know the reason, although the assumption is that it’s part of the 25% reduction in web based interaction that the BBC is commited to.

Moving the feedback site wholesale to Facebook seems odd, especially as it doesn’t seem to be regularly updated.  We wait to see how this works out.  As ever, we are happy to help 6 Music with matters regarding interaction via the web, but the Beeb have never been that happy about activists that help save jobs and contribute to the future, so we won’t hold our breath.  Anyway, feel free to join the FB thing if you’re registered.  As things stand there’s no other way of giving immediate feedback.

Enough for now.  If you’re coming to 6 Fest, we look forward to seeing you.  If not, we are planning a future event in the north or midlands in time.  Please do Keep on Keeping on, even if it’s only for reasons of personal sanity.

All the best,

ILF

In the meantime, here’s that picture again:

Hello all – long time no speak.

Well, we’ve thought long and hard about how we can continue to help our friends at 6 Music now we – and YOU – have all done our little bit to help save the station of which we’re so enamoured.  We will continue to promote its fantastic output and we’re right involved in that 6 Fest thing that promises to be such a snorting good night.

Still – we want to be a help in other areas wherever we can and we’ve noticed that the playlist thing has sparked back into life.  There has been all sorts of talk of qualitative and quantitative analysis, with people quoting this comment above that comment and taking varied positions on the level as to what what should be delivered through this particular area of policy.

So… instead of a heated debate (although you can start one of them as well if you want ), we thought we’d conduct a bit of a poll.  We want everyone who has an interest to take part, whatever side of the fence they fall, so feel free to blog, IM, tweet and share on message boards wherever you see fit.

Cheers – The ILF

We didn't do all this NOT to have a party. We don't think you did either!

NO TICKETS HERE!

Sorry – they sold out rather fast.  Oh well, there’s always the next one…

V is for Victory!

And indeed:

And cheers for this Communist fun:

Well – he had to turn up:

And we’re very pleased a particularly cool guy joined in:

These images are getting smaller – but they all say the same thing:

Legendary footballer makes an appearance:

Ne’er-do-wells, Nick, Geoff, Crispin and Oz are responsible for this filthy tirade of wrong-sided victory signs.  Soldiers all!

Hello,

Just a quick note to thank everyone for their donation to the 6 Music Protest Fund.

It was a truly memorable day, thanks in no small part to your generosity- we genuinely couldn’t have done it without your help.

There are loads of great photos and reports from the protest here if you couldn’t make it:

Contributors have received a breakdown of where the money went.

There was a bit of money left over, which we will be donating to the charity ‘Shelter’ as discussed.
Keep On Keeping On,

Nick
